We went to Austria last week over the long holiday weekend in Germany. About half an hour out of Munich, we stopped to buy gas. There happens to be a good view at this rest stop, because it’s close to the Bavarian Alps. Here is a panorama I made while the kids
played:

As I mentioned in another post, we went to Austria last weekend. One of the places we visited was a mountain outside of Salzburg called Schaffenberg or Schafbergspitze. It’s mainly accessible by a cog-wheel train that takes you up to the very top.

We almost didn’t make the journey up the mountain. It rained most of the morning, and we were about to leave the town where the train is when Sandi noticed that the sky was clearing up. We waited a few minutes, and sure enough, it was suddenly turning into a beautiful day.

Sandi and I both think it was a good thing that we decided to stay. Here is the view we saw from the top:

Well, we have finally booked our flights for the trip home. My parents will be arriving here on July 4th and we will show them around. I am getting all the plans together for their visit and it will be a lot of sights in a short time span.

The girls and I will fly back to Indy with my parents on July 15th arriving around 5:30 pm.

Ken will be flying home by himself (the lucky dog not dealing with the kids on the flight or the aftermath of the time change!!). He will arrive on August 10th and all of us will then fly back to Germany on the 24th.

Our big anniversary party will be on Saturday, August 16th at our house and hope to see everyone then! (Proper invitations will be sent in the mail).

So excited!!!

Here is a different view, from another part of the mountain:

Today was Rissa’s birthday and we celebrated with dinner in downtown Villingen and cake at home. The grandparents sent money and she was able to go on a shopping spree. She purchased a tea set, Snow White Barbie doll, and a craft toy. We gave her a tent and she plans to spend the night “camping out” in the living room. Wonder how this will go over!!!

Here is her birthday picture and her in front of the castle cake that she begged me to make for her.

I mentioned back in October that I had seen more rainbows since we moved to Germany than I had the entire rest of my life.   This was the view out our kitchen window the other night:

i am having problems with my gall bladder again so  went to the doc today. they have scheduled me for surgery on June 4th. i will be there for 2-3 days. i am doing ok with this, hey, i will just be glad to be able to eat a cheeseburger and fries again!!! i live in fear of eating right now because it may set an attack off. the bright side is the diet works! i weigh less now than when we moved here.

from what i hear, lots of people get sick right after surgery also. so just a few more pounds gone. this is almost a effective as the “survivor diet” :)

anyway, what REALLY SCARES me is the fact that ken will be alone with the kids. sadie does not take a bottle well and ken has NEVER had to do a night feeding with any of our kids!!!! i wonder if they all will survive this experience? i also wonder if the house will still be standing when i get home! at least i will be very well rested and ready to deal with it. i have forgotten what it feels like to sleep through the night.
